Binnacle Bits

A preview of the new side panels for the binnacle on the tall ship Royaliste. They are made of marine grade mahogany ply, set tongue and groove into a frame of tigerwood.

The tigerwood frame is held together using double biscuit joints with the oak biscuits constructed so that the grain crosses the joint instead of running parallel to it.

The bead on the top of the panel is for seating the lid which will hinge down onto the top. One more thing to make it a little more difficult for the water to get up inside.

I’ve still got a little bit of finish work to get done before I mount them on the binnacle, but we’re almost there.
